Places To Host Your Product Images For Free

Today, I would like to share how I repurpose free photo hosting sites to host my product images. The ones listed requires upfront registration but are free to use.

They all have generous space and promises of lifetime storage. Here we go!

1. Google Photos

I am a self confessed google fan and have comfortably found myself within their ecosystem. Google Photos allow you to upload as many photos as you wish as long as they are taken from point and click cameras. The auto back up feature using their app was the main attraction when I first signed up for the service but have now used it for hosting most of the images that I used for my sites. The plus side is the ability to get a direct link to share the images. This allows me to post them on other marketplaces.

2. Flickr

Flickr is the big Mama when it comes to image hosting and photo sharing. This is probably my first ever attempt at hosting and showcasing my pictures online. The free storage capacity have grown since to a generous 1TB and you have the ability to link to the pictures individually. There are also add on features to create badges or showcase your gallery. This can be tools to help you share high quality images of your products.

3. Shutterfly

I stumbled upon Shutterfly while trying to find an alternative back up to move images from my hard disk. The thing that attracted me was the proposition that there was unlimited storage and that the images will not be deleted. I was able to use the bulk image upload feature quite successfully and the site allows you to create a free share sites to showcase your images to either the public or groups. There are tons of other features like printing your pictures on products like mugs and t-shirts available for a price. The only downside is that I have not found a way to hotlink to the images individually.

The above are samples on how to repurpose a service to help you start out. I have not checked the terms and conditions of the service in detail but always do be mindful that you are relying on a free service. Do consider self hosting once you have reached a tipping point as free services can have a finite life as we have seen in the past with certain providers exiting the market.

Places To Host Your Sales Page For Free

Another week has passed and today I would like to share with you 3 places that I have experimented to host my product sales page for free without any ads. They are as below which I hope you will find useful.

1. Blogger

The service is provided by Google primarily as a platform for blogging. However, with it's reach features of being able to host images, templates and text, it is a great Content Management System platform.

Click Here for a sample page hosted by Blogger. This sales page is used with a blogger theme/template to give it a shopping cart feel.

An alternative option will be to use which is the next competing blogging platform. For simple sites, Google's equivalent free hosting is Google Sites but does not allow you to upload your own html files.

This page gained popularity unfortunately due to it being used by terror groups and is an equivalent of an upgraded version of pastebin (an online notepad)

The advance features allows you to copy and paste sales pages on to the site which is a big appeal and makes it quite quick to setup sales pages. The only downside is that you will get the header on your pages. That is the only form of advertising you will see in exchange to use the free service. You may also chose to upgrade your account for $5/year which will unlock extra features such as a larger quota for hosting your images.

Click here for a sample sales page hosted on The downside is that you get a page with header/branding at the top but was quite simple to set up.

3. NeoCities

This brings back the days before blogging and beyond any content management systems. NeoCities were set up to replicate the glory days of GeoCities when everyone would register to get a webpage on the internet and are able to showcase their basic sites coded in purely HTML with GIFs. This were the equivalent to the modern day social media accounts and blogs.

Well, after signing up, there is a suggestion for some donation which gives you a premium service but utilizing the free account (1GB of space) was sufficient for my review.

There is a build in folder management system which you can use to upload your html and image files. It was a fairly quick and simple process. The inbuilt HTML editor will also allow to edit files in a fly.

Click here for a sample sales page that is hosted on neocities.

I hope you would have found this post useful and can use it as additional resources for your online ventures.

Disclaimer: Do note that the quality of the location you host will impact the ranking of your pages. So, use the above method wisely and on a need basis. Lastly, do proceed with risk as you are using a free service provider which could disappear without notice.

Avoid Bank Fees when Transferring Money Back to Malaysia from United Kingdom

Being a Malaysian living abroad, there are times when I need to transfer some money back home. I have previously been using HSBC to transfer money between countries but later discover TransferWise and can't believe the improved rates and reduces fees to be paid. It was a no brainer.

How To Get Started?

All you have to do to enjoy the rates is to register for an account, pay the sum that you want to transfer either through your debit card (fastest option), online bank transfer or credit card (attracts an additional fee). Make sure you have the bank account number and swift code of the destination account you would like the money to arrive to in local currency. In this case, it will be your Malaysian bank account. You will get e-mail notifications once your transfer have been processed.

Speed of Transfer

The fastest transfer I have experienced was 2 days to USA and 4 days to Malaysia. This will be dependent whether you initiate the transfer and the number of working days.

The Fees?

You will know upfront the fees and there are no additional cost to be paid by the receiving end. This is deducted from the total amount you wish to transfer. You get a discount in the form of reduced fees on your first transfer.

I am interested to hear about your experience or if there are any other competing service out there.

Have fun and let us rise against hefty bank fees!

A Quick Overview of Sellfy

I thought I would cover today's post with a quick review of Sellfy which I have been using for a while and the options you have of displaying your products with their tools.

I am reviewing basic options that will come with your free accounts which allows you to host up to 5 products with up to the size of 2GB each. So, let us start to take a look on how your products and store will look like once you have uploaded your product.

Your Storefront/Profile Page

Click here to view how your profile page/store will look like. You can customize it with some text, logo and links to your social media pages/profile. You may also embed your product page on an existing website and it will look like below:

Embedding Your Products On An Existing Page
There is also an option to embed your stores and products on a facebook page.

Your Dedicated Product Page

Click here to view a sample of a sales page for your product. You have the option of adding images and links to sales video from youtube or vimeo to promote your product.

Similar to the above option of embedding your whole store on an existing site, you will also have the option to embed a single product which will look like below:

Embedding Your Product Page

Embedding Sales Button

Alternatively, you may also embed just the buy button on your own site and it will look like below:

Buy now

Instant Payment

Once you make a successful sale, the customer will pay you directly and the sellfy will deduct a percentage of the amount and any fees as a separate payment coming out of Paypal. You will receive the standard paypal notification for those two transactions.

One of the plus side of Sellfy is the reporting tool and graphs that comes with it. Below is a sample of how it looks like. As you can see, it shows you the total amount of hits/views on your products and the individual traffic sources. This allows you to have powerful insights.

What I have shared is only the tip of the iceberg on how powerful Sellfy is. There are other features like e-mail marketing, social media discounts and pay what you want feature. I am sure the team will also be building on and releasing new features. If you are from Sellfy and is reading this blogpost, please do give a shoutout!

Registering a Malaysian Child Born in the United Kingdom

Congratulations on your newborn. Now the fun begins. Are you aware that you have 12 months from your newborn's birth to get them registered at the Embassy. I am sharing the below based on an application for a child with two Malaysian parents. I am not sure what the variations will be if one of the parents are not Malaysian but hope you will find the below useful based on my recent application for my newborn.

Malaysian Birth Certificate (Borang W) & Passport

Passport Size Pictures (35mm wide and 50mm in length)

- 2 x Passport Size Photographs with Blue Background for Birth Certificate
- 2 x Passport Size Photographs with White Background for Passport

Documents Needed (Original & 3 Copies)

- You will need the full UK Birth Certificate
- Both Parents IC
- Both Parents Current Passport
- Both UK Parents Biometric Resident Permit
- Parents Marriage Certificate

You will need 2 copies for the Birth Certificate Application and 1 copy for the passport application. For documents like your Identity Card and Biometric Resident Permit, you will need to photocopy the front and the back of the card.

There are no forms that you can obtained online and will have to fill two copies at the embassy. You will not need to fill in a separate form for their passport.

No card payment facilities are available, so it is best you bring exact change.
Borang W: £10.00.
Passport Application: £21.00

Same Day Collection

One of the thing that deserves praise is the same day collection of the documents. The newborn does not need to be there for the collection of the forms and passport. Make sure you hand in your collection slip over the counter when the embassy re-opens between 1500 - 1600 for collection.

Other Things To Worry About

If you are planning to travel home to Malaysia, do note that you might have issues returning with your child if he or she has not been issue with a dependent visa. So, I would highly recommend that you start any dependent visa application and obtaining it first before heading back.

Lastly, I don't work for the embassy and this is not an official site. For any up to date information, always contact the Malaysian embassy in London directly. You can visit their official website for their contact details.

Hope you found this useful. Lastly, make sure you check my tip on getting free life insurance cover that will benefit your child.
