Can't Creat Folder Name CON

I received this e-mail, tested it out and it really works. Attached is the exact e-mail..

------------------------------------------------------------------

An Indian(J.R.Guhan) discovered that nobody can

create a FOLDER anywhere on the computer which can be named as

"CON".

This is something pretty cool...and unbelievable... At Microsoft the

whole Team, including Bill Gates, couldn't answer why this happened!

So, inform about this to all your friends. TRY IT NOW , IT WILL NOT

CREATE " CON " FOLDER

Try To rename the New Folder as CON Or con It will not Accept ...

------------------------------------------------------------------

I won't be surprise if Bill Gates can't answer it as I don't think he is that techie and is as involve in the development anymore. Looks like a flaw has been discovered.

It goes back to the days of msdos (I believe). con (console) was a system name so you could not call a folder con.

Hope this helps

CON is a reserved file name for Windows.

This is the list of reserved names for Windows:

PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.

To create a new folder, and rename it to CON

create a new folder, rename it to CON but don’t press enter yet.
Hold down Alt and type 2 5 5 on the number pad and then press enter.

Well ALT+255 stands for a blank character in ASCII so it allows you to use this folder name. Well I consider this part "cheating" but there is one more technique which we can use.
